Last Thursday’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? featured legendary British actor Toby Jones.
…And it seems that acting is not new to Toby’s family, with his mother being descended from several generations of actresses, and, indeed, being an actress herself.
Toby’s father was also an actor, but came from a more grounded background — working-class Stoke-on-Trent.
…There was always a little story, though, that there was some sort of family connection to India. That couldn’t be true, could it?
It’s no spoiler, given that the trailers for the episode pretty much give the game away, to say that: yes. Yes, there is a link to India.
(Any more than that, and you’ll have to see the episode.)
This was a solid and fairly standard episode, on the whole
— although the part of the episode that focussed on Toby’s acting heritage was surprisingly thin, leaving the transition between the two sides to feel quite abrupt.
Also odd were some of the choices of camera-shots — some felt a little too experimental, as if the operator were ‘trying something out.’ That’s only my personal feeling though — and doubtless they know way more about camera shots than I do!
